The bucket teeth of Caterpillar excavators are widely used, not only in excavators but also in other machinery. There are not many casting methods for bucket teeth, which are mainly divided into sand casting and precision casting. Forged bucket teeth are costly and produced in small quantities.
Sometimes, the bucket teeth of small excavators may suffer varying degrees of damage during operation, leading to their failure. Force analysis generally shows that the bucket teeth surface comes into contact with the excavated material. Throughout the excavation process, the force conditions differ at different working stages. When the tooth tip first contacts the material surface, due to its relatively high speed, the bucket tip experiences a strong impact. When the yield strength of the bucket teeth is low, plastic deformation occurs at its tip. As the excavation depth increases, the force on the bucket teeth changes. When the bucket teeth cut through the material, they move relative to it, generating a large normal compressive force on the material surface, which results in significant friction between the working surface of the bucket teeth and the material.
