After extensive wear, the bucket teeth of excavators can be repaired using the following surfacing welding process.
(1) Grind the surface of the base material with a grinding wheel to remove 2-3mm, eliminating the original work-hardened layer. If there are cracks in the base material, a V-groove should be made to completely remove the cracks.
(2) Select A202 welding electrodes for the base welding, which must be baked at 150°C for 1 hour. For the surfacing welding of the surface layer, D256 welding electrodes are chosen, which must be baked at 300-350°C for 1 hour. These electrodes can be used with both AC and DC power sources.
(3) First, use A202 welding electrodes to fill the V-groove with short weld beads. Then perform base welding in zones, dividing the surfacing welding area into sections of 60-80mm width, with gaps of about 10-30mm wide, as shown in Figure 4-37. After welding each zone, complete the welding of the gap sections.
(4) When surfacing welding the surface layer with D256 welding electrodes, perform surfacing welding in sections as shown in Figure 4-37, until the required thickness is achieved, and then surfacing weld the gap areas.
(5) During the surfacing welding process, care should be taken to prevent overheating of the base material. If necessary, part of the base material can be submerged in water for surfacing welding.
